I would recommend to check this one out if you like tales and look out for my blog post! It’s by Hans Christian Anderson, and is a little dark and doesn’t have a necessarily happy ending. I am going to write a whole post on this one. (Haha) If you can read the text in the picture, the Red Riding Hood character basically spies the deception immediately and shoots the wolf with an automatic rifle.įascinating fairy-tale. I had to include this because I just can’t get over the moral: ”It is not as easy to fool little girls nowadays as it used to be”. Which appears to be a “modern” version of “Little Red Riding Hood”.

“The Girl and the Wolf” by James Thurber. They do all kinds of crafts that involve wood, wood burning, painted animal portraits, and “earth angel dolls”! Please check them out! They are a local craft company in Washington state. The little fairy dolls (“earth angels”) in these pictures are from the very talented What Wood You Create. I wanted to highlight a few of the stories I had a chance to look at in this book. I like this because the styles can be quite different and this makes sense to me, considering the tales are from many different styles of writing. Jack Zipes’ uses several illustrators for the tales.

If anyone has checked that one out, or any of his other collections, please let me know! I would love to hear your take on them.Īs you can see below, I have compared two images from separate stories in the book. I would highly suggest many of his Grimm’s collections and I’m planning on looking into his book titled “ Don’t Bet on the Prince” soon. This is his website if you’re interested in checking out his other works. If you haven’t heard if him, he’s translated and edited dozens of fairy-tale collections. This collection was edited by Jack Zipes. One of the many special components of this work of art, is that it includes the dates for each tale! I love it when fairy-tale collections do that, and it’s not very common. There are so many I have never even heard of.īelow are pictures of the table of contents so you can see the complete list of stories included in this collection. It caught my eye today and I realized what a treasure it is! I am so so excited to start exploring the stories. Maybe if it cost more money I would have picked it up sooner to peruse the contents. Plus it was $9 so I wasn’t sacrificing much to add it to my bookshelf.

I was drawn to its cover and it looked like it had interesting stories in it. I happened to pick up this book at a second hand bookshop. I would like to share a book that I am ashamed to say has been sitting on my shelf for about a year, unopened….
